I have about 10 very rare ones. Here are 3 of them - not in any order: These all are rare because they each were what I call "mistake" hammers. In other words, Estwing was trying something new, but it didn't work out. 1) Tubular Shafted, 16 oz, Curved Claw,Vinyl/Nylon. Circa about 1958. Not only was the tube shaft rare, but this was also a transition hammer because they just started with the Vinyl Nylon grip. The v-Groove configuration where the shaft meets the head, was also just introduced. And, this is brand new in the box.
2)Wooden Riveted Grip Curved Claw. One of the very earliest Patent Pending hammers. About 1924/25
3)Leather Gripped Util Ax. The wooden ones are quite common, but not this one. The first advertisement I see is 1925. These didn't last long because the leather washer had to be split before they put them on, which caused them to fail relatively soon.

Really like the one in the box. What would it take to get that off of you? | |
